They say getting there is half the fun, well what if getting there is all the fun? Overlanding, prerunning, prelanding, or just plain old wheelin' all require a certain amount of knowing where you're going and ideally a sense of how you got there. GPS technology built into modern phones and tablets combined with sophisticated applications loaded on the devices is the future of off-road exploration. Offroad navigation apps are plentiful but mostly lackluster in usability, features, or pricing. Enter onX Offroad, the newest app from the same minds that produced the wildly successful onX Hunt. Consolidating the information for existing trails and the lands that contain them, onX Offroad categorizes trails as general or featured trails. General trails provide opening/closing dates, fee or permit requirements, vehicle type, and more.
Find a trail
Simply choose your ride and open trails appropriate for that vehicle appear highlighted in green. Featured trails have all the same data as general trails but with expanded information provided by trusted users such as estimated travel times, hazards, points of interest, and photos. These trails are colored blue and display the added info when tapped on the map interface. All the added info on the featured trails make planning a future trip while sitting at home on the couch super fun. Additional data showing campgrounds, fishing spots, boat launches, weather forecasts, backcountry cabins and more help prepare for a trip like never before.

Tracking
Planning on blazing your own trail? Use the onX Offroad tracking feature to start a new track while you explore and save it for later and even share it with friends. Adding waypoints is super simple and there is even a feature to attach pictures to specific waypoints and change their icons and colors. "Meet me here" has never been easier among trail buddies.

Offline Maps
No service? no problem. Offline maps are essential for any trail worth exploring as we go further off the grid. Downloading maps ahead of time is a snap with onX and there are even different levels of resolution to fit your device memory and download time constraints.
Uploading your own existing GPS data such as KML or GPX files can be done through the web portal.
The onX Offroad app has so many features and yet remains simple to operate. If you are like us you will quickly find that onX Offroad will provide the information you previously needed many different apps to access and can become your go-to navigation & recording device for adventures on and off the grid.
